Zuihitsu is a concept characterizing the studio´s artistic practice. Composed by the two kanji meaning “follow” and “the brush” the term indicates an approach that is primarily process driven, allowing accident and chance to be part of the final work. The provenance of the term is ultimately Chinese (随筆). As a genre in Japanese literature it consists of loosely connected personal essays and fragmented ideas that typically respond to the author’s surroundings. As a concept integrated into the studio´s practice it can be observed as a way to embrace forms or knowledge coming from other disciplines such as History, Philosophy, Religion, Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology and Bio-Technology.
